HALL OF FAME BIO A force in the Gospel music industry in the ‘60s, ‘80’s, ‘90s and today, Mylon LeFevre was born into the famous Southern Gospel music family the Singing LeFevres. As a teenager, Mylon performed and toured with the Singing LeFevres during the ‘60s. At 17 years old, Mylon’s first song, “Without Him,” was recorded by Elvis Presley. Over the next year, over 120 artists had recorded songs Mylon had written.
Mylon abandoned traditional Gospel music during the mid-60’s, attempting to meld the genre with rock. He recorded with several members of what would become the Atlanta Rhythm Section and released his first album Mylon, We Believe, which was one of the first Christian Rock albums ever released. With each album released in the ‘70s, Mylon became more and more secular in his musical stylings and lyrics. Mylon formed the Holy Smoke Band and recorded and toured with artists like Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Little Richard, the Who, Charlie Daniels, Willie Nelson, Mick Fleetwood and ZZ Top.
After an almost fatal overdose in 1973, Mylon slowly turned his life back towards his roots, reclaiming his faith. In 1981, Mylon formed Broken Heart with fellow church goers. In 1988 the group was honored with a Grammy for Best Gospel Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group, Choir or Chorus for their album Crack the Sky. They were also awarded with two Dove Awards and sold millions of records.
After suffering from a major heart attack in 1989, Mylon became a preacher and instructor, ministering to over 70 churches a year and speaking at various engagements all over the world including motorcycle rallies and NFL and NBA chapel services.
