Tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley, who throughout his career was overshadowed by more influential tenors such as Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane, was himself a talented and fairly original player and a fine composer; many of his originals deserve to be revived. For this Blue Note session, which in its CD reissue includes three alternate takes, Mobley, trumpeter Lee Morgan, pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Charlie Persip interpret four of the tenor's songs, including "High and Flighty" and the 12-minute "Git-Go Blues," along with the standard "Speak Low." The results are high-quality hard bop, the modern mainstream of the era. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
