Released 1975 The title track from Burnin' Thing wasn't a very big hit for Mac Davis, but the album -- helped along by exposure from Davis' television program, The Mac Davis Show -- made the charts. It's a wild assortment of songs, from glossy pop to Elvis Presley-style country-rock. "The Hits Just Keep on Coming," an ode to rock & roll radio, is the best cut, and the award for most unusual goes to Davis' own "Rufus Was a Redneck," a Hoyt Axton sound-alike about a racist who gets his due. "The Jimmy Brown Song" is better known as "The Three Bells," and "I Still Love You (You Still Love Me)" made an even weaker chart showing than "Burnin' Thing." Davis' fans may enjoy the full range of offerings on Burnin' Thing, but most listeners will find only a few cuts that strike their fancy. ~ Greg Adams, All Music Guide
