With songs written by Isaac Hayes and Dave Porter, and with Stax's house band the MG's backing them up, Sam Moore and Dave Prater came roaring out of Memphis with a string of hard-hitting soul singles in the late 1960s. This brief disc has several of those hits ("Hold On! I'm Comin'," "Soul Man," "I Thank You," "When Something Is Wrong with My Baby"), but unfortunately not in the original versions. It's still a high-octane set, but by the early '80s, when these versions were recorded, the energy and fervor that made Sam & Dave so combustible as performers was obviously starting to run thin. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
