There are countless compilations of Curtis Mayfield's post-Impressions material on the market, and although any Mayfield is better than no Mayfield, few of them get the balance exactly right between his lightly funky sociopolitical anthems and his gentle, almost whispered love songs. This brief compilation has a couple of the big statements like "Freddie's Dead" and "Future Shock," as well as one of Mayfield's most beautiful love ballads, "So In Love," but most of what is here just isn't the A-list stuff, although it's hard to vote against this guy in any context; he was that good. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
