Released 1999

In 1999, the U.K.-based Eagle Records released Ronnie Milsap's second and third albums for RCA Victor -- 1974's Pure Love and the following year's A Legend in My Time -- as a CD two-fer. Although there is a serious lack of annotation -- the liner notes consist of reproductions of the front and back covers of both LPs along with track listings with minimal writing credits -- this is still a welcome addition to Milsap's catalog, since so few of his terrific early-'70s records have made it to compact disc. These records were later overshadowed by bigger records in the late '70s and early '80s, but they were much better in many ways, since they had a strong selection of songs, a greater variety of sound, and a stronger country underpinning. They also prove that while Milsap was certainly a titan on the country singles charts, he made LPs that held together well as albums, with good material never released on 45. This CD proves that to be true, and while it could have been better, at least it was done at all. It's necessary for any serious Milsap fan. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
