Jody Grind frontwoman Kelly Hogan re-emerges with an eclectic collection of country-tinged torch songs and down-tempo rockers that highlight her warm, brassy voice. The album's best moments may be the interpretations of Vic Chesnutt and Will Oldham numbers that sound more personal and intimate than the versions recorded by the songs' own writers. Surprises like the shuffling "Dirtclod" and the slinky "The Idea of You" are all the more enjoyable for their unexpectedness. Only the noisy "Feel Good Hit" disappoints. Though she appears to be a less-than-prolific songwriter, penning just two of this album's 15 tracks, Hogan remains a talent to watch. ~ Brian Beatty, All Music Guide
