The Sequel: It Ain't Over!
Millie Jackson

 Released February 18, 1997

This is the soundtrack sequel to "Queen of Raunch" Millie Jackson's chitlin circuit-style musical "Young Man, Older Woman." While cut in the anachronistic '70s vein, there are some very good tracks here. There are two fine country songs: "Where Are You Now" is a sweet, light ballad, while "Simple Man" is a rocking number with a lot of sass. Jackson's daughter Keisha rises to the occasion on the exquisite inspirational anthem, "Two Sparrows in a Hurricane"; while her voice isn't in her mother's contralto range, Keisha does have an attractive alto which glides over this track with ease and zest. Jackson comes back for another performance on "Do You Want to Go There," an assertive challenge to do the right thing, although in this context exactly what that might be is unclear; but Jackson sings it like she means it. Ray, Goodman & Brown's performance of "She's Crazy" is average, however, and the rest of the tracks done by Jackson or Douglas Knyght-Smith are horrendously boring and uncreative. This may be the world's only soundtrack which doesn't really tell you what the musical is about, as there's no unifying theme or storyline joining these songs. ~ Bill Carpenter, All Music Guide
