Complete Recorded Works, Vols. 1-3
Barbecue Bob

Released March 25, 1927 - December 08, 1930

Over the course of three CDs (also available as individual volumes), Document Records compiled every note Barbecue Bob recorded in the late '20s. The first volume covers everything he cut between March 25, 1927, and April 13, 1928; the second, April 21, 1928, to November 3, 1929; the third November 6, 1929, to December 8, 1930. In between the first song on the set and the last, there is some incredible country blues; there was a reason why he was among the most popular bluesmen of his time. Although there is too much music here for anyone but dedicated country blues fans to be able to digest and the sound quality is only fair (which isn't surprising, considering that the series had to be mastered from 78s), Document's Complete Recorded Works, Vols. 1-3 is an excellent historical document that happens to contain music that still sounds fresh and vital decades after it was recorded. ~ Thom Owens, All Music Guide
