Fletcher Henderson with Louis Armstrong (1924-1927) Fletcher Henderson |
Released October 07, 1924 - April 24, 1927
This French CD contains many of the best recordings from Louis Armstrong's year with Henderson, including such classics as "Copenhagen," "Everybody Loves My Baby," "Mandy Make up Your Mind" and "Sugar Foot Stomp." During this time Henderson added other fine soloists (including trombonist Charlie Green and clarinetist Buster Bailey) and Don Redman's arrangements began to swing. The final six numbers from this 22-selection CD are from The Henderson orchestra's zenith in 1927 with "Fidgety Feet" and "Variety Stomp" featuring brilliant work from tenor great Coleman Hawkins, trombonist Jimmy Harrison, clarinetist Bailey and trumpeter Tommy Ladnier. A perfect introduction to Fletcher Henderson. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
