Roll 'Em Mary Lou Williams |
Released 1944 Pianist Mary Lou Williams, in a trio with bassist Al Lucas and drummer Jack "The Bear" Parker, is heard playing nine numbers for radio transcriptions on this LP. In addition to the regular takes, all of the music she performed that day is here including five false starts, five alternate takes and two incomplete versions. Because of the odd programming, it is a bit difficult to follow the evolution of some of these performances but the finished results are generally quite good. Highlights include "Limehouse Blues," "Froggy Bottom" and "Roll 'Em." ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
