Every Night: Live at Vine St. Joe Williams |
Released May 07, 1987 - May 08, 1987
The focus is entirely on Joe Williams (who is backed by a standard four-piece rhythm section) during this live session from Vine Street. Then 69, Williams had not lost a thing and his voice has rarely sounded stronger. This version of "Every Day I Have the Blues" is transformed into Miles Davis's "All Blues," Williams revives Eubie Blake's "A Dollar for a Dime" and sounds wonderful on such songs as "Too Marvelous for Words," "I Want a Little Girl" and "Roll 'Em Pete." This is the best of Joe Williams's records from the '80s. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
