Colour Collection Lynyrd Skynyrd |
Released October 15, 2007 Spectrum's Colour Collection series (they can sell it that way because it's an import) is essentially a best-of collection culled from album tracks. There isn't anything special about these compilations -- nothing distinguishes them from Yankee greatest-hits collections aside from the price. This 13-cut set comes very close to being a definitive Lynyrd Skynyrd comp with one missing track. All of the hits are here, from "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Gimme Two Steps" to "Free Bird," "Saturday Night Special," and "That Smell," etc. But what's missing? The mighty and heartbreaking "Tuesday's Gone," the finest ballad the band ever cut. Yes, these are all original album versions, so the sound is great. This is a contender, but the Gold collection on Universal is still the one, although it has more music than the casual fan needs. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
