Still Caught Up Millie Jackson |
Released 1975
Still Caught Up returned listeners to the torrid backbiting and constant recriminations of Millie Jackson's blockbuster Caught Up, and though it didn't compare favorably, it was easily good enough to make it better than her average full-length. Though not live, it has a stagey sound, with frequent monologues, nice testifying backup vocals, an odd breakout of audience applause, and the kind of loose-limbed horn section heard during Elvis' Las Vegas appearances. Jackson sounds resigned at the beginning ("Making the Best of a Bad Situation"), but by the end side one, she's getting just as unhinged as on Caught Up ("The Memory of a Wife") and talking just as tough ("Tell Her It's Over"). It must have grown difficult to select appropriate material for another record of this kind, but she closes it out in style with Mac Davis' "I Still Love You (You Still Love Me)." ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
